The Contemporary North American Teenager - Holden Caulfield (Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger)

        In J.D. Salingers The Catcher in the Rye, the behaviour and attitudes displayed by Holden Caulfield, the novels protagonist, do much to bolster an unflattering stereotype of the contemporary trades total American adolescent. What is the stereotype of the contemporary North American teenager? Is it someone who follows the rules and doesnt go against authority or is it someone who is nerve-wracking to find their place in the world? They have scant(p) people relationships with their p bents and parents who do not seem to worry ab out their nurture grades. Holdens parents in Salingers novel seem or so non-existent. Another distinction they possess is that they do not pay form. Lastly, they use unwarranted profanity in their vocabulary and embark in conflicting activities. Holden displays all of those behaviours and attitudes in Salingers novel.         After primal school, Holden has been sent to training school after prep schoo l. The crusade is attributed to him dropping out continuously. This could be seen as a look to for attention from his parents. It in addition shows that his parents do not unfeignedly care about his achievements in school. In the scene where Holden sneaks into his familys flat tire to visit his sister, Phoebe, it demonstrates the absentness of his parents. At a time when he involve someone to talk to and institutionalize in, his parents were not even home. When they did eff home, and his mother smelt the seat smoke in Phoebes room, she did not really show any concern when Phoebe claimed she had lighted it.         Holden is not open to change and is not prepared for it.
